Sunshine is guaranteed to the masses.

Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.

Bathhouses are against the law.

Explanation: This law was enacted shortly after the AIDS epidemic came into the News in the 1980's. Bathhouses were one of the primary places people could go for anonymous sex. This law was designed to curtail exposure to HIV and other STD's.

(a) Every building or place used for the purpose of illegal gambling as defined by state law or local ordinance, lewdness, assignation, or prostitution, and every building or place in or upon which acts of illegal gambling as defined by state law or local ordinance, lewdness, assignation, or prostitution, are held or occur, is a nuisance which shall be enjoined, abated, and prevented, and for which damages may be recovered, whether it is a public or private nuisance.

Nothing in this subdivision shall be construed to apply the definition of a nuisance to a private residence where illegal gambling is conducted on an intermittent basis and without the purpose of producing profit for the owner or occupier of the premises.

(b) Every building or place used as a bathhouse which as a primary activity encourages or permits conduct that according to the guidelines of the federal Centers for Disease Control can transmit AIDS, including, but not limited to, anal intercourse, oral copulation, or vaginal intercourse, is a nuisance which shall be enjoined, abated, and prevented, and for which damages may be recovered, whether it is a public or private nuisance.

For purposes of this subdivision, a "bathhouse" is to be defined as a business which, as its primary purpose, provides facilities for a spa, whirlpool, communal bath, sauna, steam bath, mineral bath, mud bath, or facilities for swimming.

It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

Women may not drive in a house coat.

No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

Cathedral City Laws

It is prohibited to sleep in a parked vehicle.

Citation: 11.04.030 Sleeping in vehicles--Prohibited in public places.

No person shall sleep in any automobile or other vehicle parked on any sidewalk, street, alley, or other public place, including any approved private street or right-of-way, within the corporate limits of the city.

Persons may not ride their bicycles through the "Fountain of Life".

Citation: 11.98.100 Biking.

Biking is prohibited in the fountain. This rule is intended to protect all persons using the fountain including, but not limited to, adults, teenagers, adolescents, supervised minors and unsupervised minors from falling, slipping, and causing or suffering from foreseeable injuries that are typically associated with biking in wet areas that contain numerous persons.

One may not bring their dog to school.

Citation: 10.28.050 Dogs at public schools prohibited.

No person shall bring any dog, except an official city, county or other law enforcement agency police dog or "service working dog" as that term is defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. Sections 12101 et seq.), onto any public school property. This section shall not, however, be deemed to prohibit the use of dogs on school property for teaching or other school uses when approved by the proper school authorities.

Cerritos Laws

It is prohibited to sleep in a parked vehicle.

Citation: 11.04.030 Sleeping in vehicles--Prohibited in public places.

No person shall sleep in any automobile or other vehicle parked on any sidewalk, street, alley, or other public place, including any approved private street or right-of-way, within the corporate limits of the city.

Cerritos Law

All dog "waste" must be removed from any yard within seven days s

Citation: 6.24.015 Removal of materials between January 15th through May 15th.

(a) During the period from January 15th to May 15th of each and every year, it shall be unlawful for any person to permit any animal or fowl manure, excrement or other fly breeding material to remain on or at his premises for a period in excess of seven days.

(b) During the period from January 15th to May 15th of each and every year, all animal or fowl manure, excrement, and all other fly breeding materials, shall be removed at least once a week from all premises, including but not limited to, poultry ranches, poultry yards, dairies, cattle yards, barns, sheds, feeding platforms, coops, and mangers. Every person maintaining or operating a poultry ranch, dairy, or cattle yard shall file with the code enforcement officer a notice specifying the day of each and every week during the period of January 15th to May 15th that he will remove or cause to be removed from his premises all animal and fowl manure, excrement and all other fly breeding materials.

Chico Laws

One must obtain a permit from the city to throw hay in a cesspool.

Citation: 9.22.010. Prohibitions.

It shall be unlawful for any person in the city, to throw into or deposit upon any public street, highway or grounds or any private premises, any garbage or filth; also to empty or throw or deposit in any cesspool or manhole or flushing hole of any sewer within the city, any glass, broken wares, hay, straw, dirt, rubbish, garbage, waste matter, filth, butcher's offal, or branches of trees; or to contract or obstruct the channel of any creek in the city, except by permit of the city council

It is illegal to own a green or smelly animal hide.

Citation: 9.24.010 Hides.

It shall be unlawful for any person to keep, store, or have in his possession, any green hide or any hide giving off an offensive odor.

Bowling on the sidewalk is illegal.

Citation: 9.26.010 Prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any person in the city, to play baseball or any other game upon any street, sidewalk, lane or alley.

Driving a herd of cattle down a street is against the law.

Citation: 9.44.020 Driving animals on streets prohibited.

It shall be unlawful to drive, herd, or cause to be driven or herded upon any public street, alley, sidewalk or public place of the city any cattle, horses, mules, hogs, sheep or goats.

It is illegal to plant a garden in any public street.

Citation: 9.44.040 Plowing, cultivation in streets.

It shall be unlawful for any person to plow any portion of an open public street, avenue or alley in the city, except for the purpose of grading the same under authority duly had and obtained from the city council, and no person shall cultivate, sow or plant therein, any vegetable or truck garden.

Detonating a nuclear device within the city limits results in a $500 fine.

Dana Point Laws

One may not use one's own restroom if the window is open.

Citation: 11.40.050 Urination and Human Waste.

No person shall urinate or defecate on private property in any area exposed to the public view, or on any public street, sidewalk, alley, park, or other public place, except in a public or private restroom.

Downey Laws

It is illegal to wash your car in the street.

El Monte Laws

Sandboxes may not be used as ashtrays.

B. It shall be unlawful for any person to dispose of cigarette butts, cigar butts, or any other tobacco-related waste within a playground or tot lot sandbox area.

Pinball machines are outlawed, as well as mock horse racing games.

Citation: Section 9.24.010 Definitions.

For the purposes of this chapter the following words and phrases shall have the meaning and shall be construed as hereinafter set forth:

"Any game similar to a marble game" means "B alley," "alley" and any other miniature mechanical bowling game device, by whatever name called, any table, cabinet or mechanical device equipped for the playing of any game whereby any marble, ball, pellet or any moving object is propelled, rolled, shot or released toward a goal, pin, set of pins, or other objective by means of any plunger, ejector, mechanical bat, mechanical hand, or by means of any other striking or releasing mechanism which is affixed or attached to the table or cabinet, or which is an integral part of the mechanical device or which is mechanically manipulated, controlled or guided, and which game is so contrived that, at the conclusion of the operation or play thereof the score or result of play thereof is visible or otherwise discernible so as to permit or make practicable the paying off or awarding of a prize or reward upon the operation or play of the game.

"Horse racing machine" means any mechanically operated amusement machine or device contrived to simulate in miniature the running of a horse race or any other race run by beasts, humans or machines, or which is contrived to put in motion any number of objects or symbols which then do, or appear to, run or move against each other in the manner of a miniature race, or which is designed to represent, by symbols, the running of any race and the order of the finish therefor.

"Marble game" means any table, cabinet or stand equipped for the playing of a game whereby marbles or balls are, with the aid of a mechanical plunger or other affixed device, propelled, released, shot or rolled so as to drop or come to rest in holes, slots, cups or traps, resulting in a score or tally being electrically or otherwise registered or shown, which score or tally depends upon the course followed or point reached by the marble or ball or upon the contact points touched by it along its course, or upon any combination of such factors.

"Pin game" means any table, cabinet or mechanism equipped for the playing of any game whereby any marble, ball, pellet, or other moving object is propelled, released, rolled or shot along, over or above a surface set with pins, pegs or other obstructions or irregularities which deflect or impede the course of the moving object or which may divert or direct it beyond the control of the player. Section 9.24.020 Possession prohibited.

A. No person shall use, keep, operate, maintain, place, or possess in the city any of the following:

1. Any pin game, any marble game or any game similar to a marble game, or any horse race machine the operation of which game or machine is controlled, permitted or made a variable by placing therein a coin, plug, disk, key, or token or which is let for use, operation or play upon the payment or delivery of anything of value therefor, or upon the making of any purchase.

2. Any mechanical device or mechanically operated contrivance for the playing of any game of chance, the use or operation of which is controlled, permitted or made available by placing therein any coin, plug, disk, key or token, or which is let for use, operation, or play upon the payment or delivery of anything of value therefor, or upon the making of any purchase.

B. Exception. The provisions of subsection A of this section shall not apply to the keeping, possessing, or exhibiting of any such mechanical contrivance or device at or in any mercantile store in which such mechanical contrivances or devices are kept solely for sale and which mechanical contrivances or devices members of the public are not permitted or allowed to operate, manipulate or play except as incident to a demonstration for the purpose of sale.

Waitresses are not allowed to consume drinks bought by her customers.

Citation: Section 9.04.030 B-girls prohibited.

No employee shall accept or solicit for himself or herself drinks of alcoholic beverages from any customer at the place where he or she is employed.

Eureka Laws

Persons may not sleep on a road.

Citation: � 130.02 SLEEPING IN PUBLIC.

It shall be unlawful and an infraction for any person to lie or sleep on any sidewalk, street, alley, or other public place in the city.

One must seek written permission from the Director of Public Works before playing baseball in a city park.

Citation: � 93.55 BASEBALL PLAYING.

It shall be unlawful to throw or hit or knock any baseball with a ball bat or any other instrument or engage in or play the game of baseball in any other manner on any city park or playground without first obtaining written permission to do so from the Director of Public Works. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and empowered to specify the conditions under which the game of baseball may be engaged in or played at any city park or playground. For the purposes of this section, the term �baseball� shall mean any ball having a circumference of less than 11� inches or a weight of less than six ounces and which is commonly used in the game known as baseball.

Fresno Laws

Getting drunk on a playground is against the law.

Citation: SECTION 8-120. DRINKING ON STREET OR PLAYGROUND.
(a) No person shall drink any beer, wine or other intoxicating beverage on any street, sidewalk, pedestrian mall, alley, highway, playground, parking lot open to the general public or other lot open to the general public.
(b) Subsection (a) of this section shall not be deemed to make punishable an act or acts which are prohibited by any statute of the State of
California.
(c) Subsection (a) of this section shall not apply to any person in an encroachment area posted pursuant to subsection (d) of this section during business hours of the permittee restaurant.
(d) The operator of any restaurant which serves any beer, wine, or other intoxicating beverage for consumption in an area operated for restaurant purposes on any street, sidewalk, or pedestrian mall pursuant to an encroachment permit issued by the Council shall post and maintain signs in or adjacent to the encroachment area reasonably calculated to give notice of the limits of the area and the exception contained in subsection (c) of this section. The number, content, physical features, and locations of such signs shall be only as approved by the Police Chief. The external boundaries of any encroachment area in which intoxicating beverages may be consumed shall be clearly designated by a painted line referred to in the signs.
(e) Subsection (a) of this section shall only apply to a parking lot or other lot open to the general public if:
(1) Pursuant to the property owner's written request, the Police Chief has determined that the lot is open to the general public, and
(2) The owner or operator has posted in a conspicuous place at each entrance to the lot a notice, approved by the Police Chief, to the effect that the lot is subject to the provisions of this section.
(f) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, the Parks and Recreation Director may authorize the consumption of alcoholic beverages during an event of limited duration held in a mall area as defined in Section 11-109 of this Code and conducted by an organization when the event is for the benefit of a nonprofit organization, a charitable purpose, or the city.

Elementary schools may not host poker tournaments.

Citation: SECTION 8-121. GAMBLING ON OR ABOUT SCHOOL PROPERTY. No person shall play, participate in, or bet for or against any game not mentioned in Section 330 or 330a of the Penal Code of the State of California, in any public place or in any place exposed to the public view located within three hundred feet of any school if said game is played, conducted, dealt, or carried on with cards, dice, or other device, for money, checks, chips, credits, or any other thing which has or represents value.

It is illegal to sell gasoline to a drunken person.

Citation: SECTION 8-124. SALE OF GASOLINE TO INTOXICATED PERSON. No person shall sell, loan, give or deliver gasoline to any person under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

Permanent markers may not be sold in the city limits.

Citation: SECTION 8-133.2. DISPLAY OF AEROSOL SPRAY PAINT CONTAINERS AND MARKER PENS. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation doing business within the City of Fresno to store, stock, keep or display for sale or transfer any aerosol spray paint container, or any indelible ink marker pen with a tip exceeding four millimeters in width, in an area other than a place that is locked and secure or is otherwise made unavailable to the public and which is accessible only to employees of such businesses.

it is against the law to hold a private bingo game.

Citation: SECTION 8-1016. CONDITIONS OF OPERATION. It is unlawful for any bingo game to be operated in violation of any of the following conditions:
(a) No minors shall be allowed to participate in any bingo game;
(b) All bingo games shall be open to the public, not just to members of the nonprofit organization;
(c) No person shall be allowed to participate in a bingo game, unless the person is physically present at the time and place in which the bingo game is being conducted;
(d) The total value of prizes awarded during the conduct of any bingo game shall not exceed two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) in cash or kind, or both, for each separate game which is held;
(e) Attendance at any bingo game shall be limited to the occupancy capacity of the room as set forth in the permit;
(f) No permittee shall issue chips or money to a patron on credit or a loan, including but not limited to IOU's and checks to be held, nor shall patrons be allowed to play on credit;
(g) No person who is obviously intoxicated shall be allowed to participate in a bingo game;
(h) No permittee shall conduct any bingo game except between the hours of twelve noon and twelve midnight, nor shall any permittee conduct bingo games for more than four (4) hours during any 24-hour period, nor shall any permittee conduct bingo games more than two (2) days in any seven-day period; except at locations within a target area from Highway 41 to Tuolomne Street between Broadway/H and Q Street, wherein bingo games may be conducted any day of the week; and further, no location, including a single building or a series of contiguous rooms or buildings, shall be utilized to conduct bingo games more than eight (8) hours during any twenty-four-hour period;
(i) No person shall violate any condition attached to the permit;
(j) The permittee shall post and keep posted in a conspicuous place within the room in which bingo is being played the rules and regulations of said games;
(k) No person shall conduct any bingo game after the permit therefor has expired or during any period in which it is suspended;
(l) The permittee shall conduct a bingo game only on property owned or leased by it, or property whose use is donated to the organization, and which property is used by such organization for an office or for performance of purposes for which the organization is organized. Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to require that the property owned or leased by or whose use is donated to the organization be used or leased exclusively by or donated exclusively to such organization;
(m) The permittee shall keep for three (3) years a written record of the name, address, and date of birth or driver's license number of each person receiving a prize of a cash value or market value exceeding ten dollars ($10.00), which records shall be made available to the Police Chief or his designee upon request;
(n) For each bingo session, the permittee shall obtain the signature, and shall record on a list the name, address, and date of birth or driver's license number, of all persons assisting in any manner in the conduct of a bingo game operation. Such list shall be signed by a principal officer of the permittee certifying that all persons assisting in the conduct of the bingo game operation are members of the organization. The list shall be made available for inspection at any time by the Police Chief, the Controller, or their designees;
(o) No person operating or assisting in the operation of a bingo game shall participate in any game played during that bingo session

Skipping rocks in a city park is not allowed.

Citation: SECTION 8-401. PROHIBITED ACTS IN PARKS. Within the limits of any park, no person shall do any of the acts hereinafter specified, to wit:
(1) Drive, or let loose any cattle, horse, or other livestock, provided that this shall not apply to dogs when led by a cord or chain not more than six feet long.
(2) Sell any tickets for a performance or activity or seek contributions for a performance or activity, whether conducted in the park or elsewhere, except with the prior written permission of the Park Superintendent.
(3) Cut, break, injure, deface, or disturb any tree, shrub, plant, rock, building, cage, pen, monument, fence, bench, or other structure, apparatus, or property; or pluck, pull up, cut, take or remove any shrub, bush, plant, or flower, or mark or write upon any building, monument, fence, bench or other structure, or carry any flowers, shrubs, or branches into or through any park.
(4) Cut or remove any wood, turf, grass, soil, rock, sand, or gravel.
(5) Distribute any commercial handbills, or circulars, or post, place, or erect any bill notice, paper, or advertising device, or matter of any kind.
(6) Swim, bathe, wade in, or pollute the water of any fountain, pond, lake, or stream, except that wading and swimming shall be permitted in pools provided for these purposes.
(7) Make or kindle a fire for any purpose, except at places provided for such purpose, unless prior special permission be obtained therefore from the Park Superintendent.
(8) Camp or lodge therein at any place not set apart for that purpose without prior written permission of the Park Superintendent.
(9) Ride, drive, or propel any vehicle elsewhere than on the paths, roads, or drives provided for such purpose.
(10) Indulge in riotous, boisterous, threatening, indecent or immoral conduct, or abusive, threatening, profane language or throw stones or missiles.
(11) Sell, or offer for sale, any merchandise, article or thing, whatsoever, without prior written permission of the Park Superintendent.
(12) Hitch, fasten or ride any horse, or other animal, except at a place specially designated and provided for such purpose; ride or drive any horse or animal not well broken and under control of the driver.
(13) Play or practice golf or archery, or fly motor driven model aircraft in any park except in areas specifically designated and posted for such purpose.
(14) Play or bet at or against any game which is played, conducted, dealt or carried on with cards, dice, or other device, for money, chips, shell, credit, or other representative of value, or maintain or exhibit any gambling table or other instrument of gambling or gaming, or play any game prohibited by any provision of this Code.
(15) Practice, carry on, conduct, or solicit for any trade, occupation, business, or profession, without the written permission of the Park Superintendent.
(16) Row, or sail on any pond, lake or waters in any boat or raft, excepting one provided for that purpose by the city or holder of boating privileges, without first obtaining the written permission of the Park Superintendent.
(17) Drive, or have any dray, truck, wagon, cart or other traffic vehicle, carrying or used or employed in carrying goods, merchandise, lumber, oil, dirt, manure, sand, or soil, or any article of trade or commerce, or any offensive article or material whatsoever, upon any road or drive, except when the same is being done for the improvement of the park, and at the direction of the Park Superintendent.
(18) Play, or engage in any game, excepting at such place as shall be especially set apart for that purpose.
(19) Enter, remain, stay, loiter, park or leave standing any vehicle between the hours of twelve o'clock midnight and five o'clock a.m. of the following day, without the written permission of the Park Superintendent; provided that this subdivision of this section shall not prevent persons from camping overnight (with or without vehicles) in any portion of any park set aside for that purpose.
(20) Take into, exhibit or use in any park any firearm, air gun, sling shot, firecrackers, torpedoes, rockets, or other fireworks, or other articles of like character.
(21) Go upon any lawn or grass plot, where prohibited by the Park Superintendent, and which prohibition is indicated by proper and legible signs.
(22) Open, expose, or interfere with any water or gas pipe, hydrant, stopcock, sewer, basin, or other construction, in any park.
(23) Hang behind any vehicle, or tow any vehicle of any kind in any park, excepting, however, in case of breakdowns within a park, the disabled vehicle may be towed to the nearest point of exit.
(24) No sound amplification system used for the amplification of music shall be permitted to be used in any park except in areas designated by the Park Superintendent. No sound amplification system shall be permitted to be used in any park without the prior approval of the Park Superintendent, who may deny approval if such use will unduly disturb users of, or neighbors to, the park. The permittee shall keep the sound level of such amplification system at a reasonable level to avoid disturbing other people using the park. The determination of a reasonable sound level shall be the judgment of the patrolman on duty and all instructions of the patrolman shall be complied with immediately. Any group desiring the use city installed public address systems at such facilities in a park shall be required to employ an operator for the system who has been approved by the Park Superintendent and paid such reasonable fee as may be prescribed by the Park Superintendent.

No one may annoy a lizard in a city park.

Citation: SECTION 8-410. DISTURBING ANIMALS IN PARKS. No person shall hunt, pursue, annoy, throw stones or missiles at, or molest or disturb in any way, any animal, bird or reptile within the confines of any park.

Glendale Laws

One may not take his dog on an elevator with him.

On Citation: 6.08.030 Restrictions-Public elevators.

No person owning or having charge, care, custody or control of any dog shall cause or allow it to go or be taken into any elevator in any office building, retail store or public building. This section shall not apply to dogs being used by the blind.

A person must be 18 years old to buy a wax container.

Citation: 8.40.010 Findings

The council finds that:

A. Large numbers of paraffin or wax containers are being discarded on the sidewalks of the city by children. Such containers, when discarded, become soft from the warmth of the sun and create a waxy, oily, greasy, slippery, dangerous and unsightly condition. The condition is aggravated because the contents of the containers attract large numbers of noxious flies.

B. The discarded wax containers constitute a hazard to pedestrians and make the sidewalks unsafe for foot travel because of the greasy and slippery condition resulting on the sidewalks. Several persons have fallen because of that condition. Such containers are a hazard to the health of the city because of the number of flies attracted to them.

C. Because of the hazard to pedestrians and the hazard to health and safety, the presence of the containers is a public nuisance.

D. This public nuisance can best be abated by prohibiting the retail sale, gift or transfer of the containers to any person under the age of eighteen years in the city.

It is illegal to jump into a passing car

No person shall board or alight from any vehicle while such vehicle is in motion.

Hermosa Beach Laws

Public restrooms must be supplied with toilet paper.

Citation: 8.48. 010 Washrooms--Public washrooms.

Every person maintaining any toilet, washroom or bath or shower room for the use of employees or the public shall at all time keep the floors, walls, ceilings, lavatory, urinals and toilet bowl free from any accumulation of dirt, filth or corrosion. All lavatories shall be supplied with soap and individual towels with a receptacle for their disposal. All toilet rooms shall be provided with toilet paper.

No person may show his or her buttocks on a playground.

Citation: 9.04.020 Nudity in public parks, playgrounds and beaches.

A. Definition of Park. The term "park" includes every public park, roadside rest areas, playground, zoological garden, ocean, beach or other recreational facility area, together with any parking lot, reservoir, pier, swimming pool, court, field, bridle path, train or other recreational facility or structure thereon, in the city.

B. Conduct Prohibited. Within the city, no person shall appear, bathe, sunbathe, walk or be in any public park, playground, beach or the waters adjacent thereto, in such a manner that the genitals, vulva, pubis, pubic symphysis, pubic hair, buttocks, natal cleft, perineum, anus, anal region, or pubic hair region of any such person, or any portion of the breast at or below the upper edge of the areola thereof, of any such female person, is exposed to public view or is not covered by an opaque covering.

C. Exceptions. This section shall not apply to children under the age of ten years. This section shall not apply to live theatrical performances which are performed in a theater, concert hall, or other similar establishment located on public land.

It is illegal to pour salt on a highway.

Citation: 9.12. 040 Spilling products on certain pavements.

It is unlawful for any person to spill, pour, drop or place, or to permit the spilling, pouring, dropping or placing upon any asphalt or bituminous pavement laid upon any public street, court, alley or place within the city, and oil, petroleum, kerosene, benzine or other similar oil, or oily substance, or liquid, or any salt, rock salt, common salt, salt brine, acid, chemical, broken glass, or any injurious or destructive material which might damage such pavement.

Hollywood Laws

It is illegal to drive more than two thousand sheep down Hollywood Boulevard at one time.

Indian Wells Laws

It is illegal for a trumpet player to play his instrument with the intention of luring someone to a store.

It is declared to be a nuisance and it is unlawful for any person vending, advertising or soliciting the sale of, or assisting in vending, advertising or soliciting the sale of any kind of notions, merchandise or medicines in the City to use a musical instrument or device, or to sing or call out or to make any noise to attract persons for the purpose of vending, advertising or soliciting the sale of notions, medicines or merchandise.

Drinking intoxicating cement is prohibited.

Citation: 9.04.050 Inhaling or Drinking Certain Substances.

No person shall inhale, breathe, or drink any intoxicating glue, adhesive, cement, mucilage, dope or any other similar material for the purpose of becoming intoxicated, elated, dazed, paralyzed, irrational, or for the purpose of changing, distorting or disturbing the eyesight, thinking process, balance or coordination of such person. Any such condition so induced, for the purposes of this Chapter, is deemed to be an intoxicated condition. This section does not pertain to any person who inhales, breathes or drinks such material or substance pursuant to instruction or prescription of any duly licensed doctor, physician, surgeon, dentist or pediatrist authorized to so prescribe.

Fortelling the future for donations is illegal.

Citation: 9.24.010 Fortunetelling, Spiritism and Related Activities.

No person shall practice or solicit, advertise or purport to practice, as a business or for any consideration, fee, donation, gratuity, reward or compensation, any art or calling which seeks or purports to predict or foretell future events or the fate or future acts or fortunes of any nation, business, group or person or individual, or which attempts or promises to bring about, cause, result in or influence the achievement or performance of some personal or economic objective, by analysis of parts, products or personal characteristics of a person, or by analysis of any animate or inanimate object including, but not limited to, celestial body, crystal ball, tea leaves, or playing or other cards, or through the exercise of any purported psychic, mediumistic, prophetic, occult, clairvoyant or supernatural power.

Crushing rocks in the city limits is forbidden.

Citation: 9.44.010 Operation of Machinery Unlawful.

It is declared to be a nuisance and it is unlawful for any person to operate any rock or stone crusher or rock or stone crushing machinery within the City.

Lafayette Laws

You are forbidden to spit on the ground within 5 feet of another person.

Lodi Laws

It is illegal to shoot "silly string" at parade participants.

Citation: 9.14.020 Interference with Special Event Prohibited:

It shall be unlawful for any person to interfere with, disrupt or impede a permitted special event as specified herein. The following acts are prohibited by this section when done for the purpose of or with knowledge that an effect thereof is to interfere with or disrupt the ability of the permittee to carry on the special event.

A. To block, obstruct or impede the passage of participants, vehicles or animals in the special event along the special event route;

B. When not participating in the special event with the permission of the permittee holder, to walk, run, operate a skateboard, ride any wheeled vehicle or roller-skate through, between, with or among the participants, vehicles or animals in the special event, except in cases of bona fide emergency;

C. To drop, roll, throw, toss, squirt or propel any gaseous, liquid semi-solid or solid substance or object toward or among the participants, vehicles or animals in the special event;

D. To grab, take hold of, strike, hit, pull or push any participant, vehicle or animal in the special event, or to mount any vehicle in the special event, except with the permission of the permittee or in cases of bona fide emergency

Lompoc Laws

It is illegal to posses, own or raise roosters. This is considered disturbing the peace.

Explanation: Over the years, roosters became a greater nuisance than most residents could tolerate. Thus, the roosters have been labled as disturbances of the peace.

Long Beach Laws

Cars are the only item allowed in a garage.

It is illegal to curse on a mini-golf course.

Los Angeles Laws

It is illegal for a man to beat his wife with a strap wider than 2 inches without her consent.

You cannot bathe two babies in the same tub at the same time.

You may not hunt moths under a street light.

It is illegal to cry on the witness stand

Toads may not be licked.

Explanation: The toad that is referenced in this law secretes a poison that some people were licking to produce an effect like heroin to become "high".

It is a crime for dogs to mate within 500 yards of a church. Breaking this law is punishable by a fine of $500 and/or six months in prison.

Zoot suits are prohibited.

Explanation: This law dates back to the 30's and 40's, especially during WWII. Back then good fabric was scarce thanks to the war effort, and zoot suits, with their immense use of unnecessary fabric, were seen as unpatriotic. The suit was primarily worn by hispanics, known as Pachucos(hence the swing song "Hey Pachuco") and white boys thought that being unpatriotic served as a good enough reason to beat up a few mexicans. Thus the song "Zoot Suit Riot." The City of LA, in an attempt to quell the rioting, banned zoot suits.

Los Angeles County Laws

All food in a children�s camp must be approved by the director before being used.

Citation: 11.08.080 Food supply.

It is unlawful to use any food in a children's camp unless such food is from a source approved by the director.

It is illegal to set metal balloons afloat in the air.

Citation: 11.69.010 Metallic balloons.

B. Ban. It shall be unlawful to allow one or more metallic balloons to float, rise or remain aloft outdoors at a height of five feet or more for any advertising, promotional or commercial purpose.

No person may charge admission to a house party.

Citation: 13.41.020 Charging admission to parties in residential zones prohibited.

It is unlawful to charge admission to any party conducted in a residential zone.

It is illegal to skateboard and roller-skate through the courthouse and library.

Citation: 17.20.010 Skateboarding and roller skating prohibited.

No person shall use or operate any skateboard or roller skates on county property at the following locations, except in areas designated for such purposes by the director of the county department having jurisdiction thereof:

A. The Los Angeles County Superior Court at 200 West Compton Boulevard, Compton, California;

B. The Compton Branch of the County Public Library at 240 West Compton Boulevard, Compton, California.

Norco Laws

Vehicles may not contain sound systems which allow someone to hear noise outside the vehicle. However, this does not apply to a vehicle which is attempting to sell something.

Citation: Section 9.07.010 Raucous Noise.

No driver of a vehicle shall operate or permit operation of any radio system intended to make sound audible outside the vehicle when the vehicle is being operated upon a highway, unless such system is being operated to request assistance or warn of a hazardous situation. This section shall not apply to authorized emergency vehicles or vehicles operated by gas, electric, communications, or water utilities. This section shall not apply to the radio systems of vehicles used for advertising, or in parades, political or other special events, except that use of radio systems on such vehicles may be prohibited by a local authority by ordinance or resolution.

It is unlawful to give another fireworks

Explanation: Tumbleweeds abound in this region, so fireworks are a definite fire hazard. To prevent large scale forest fires, this law was passed.

Citation: Section 9.20.020 Unlawful uses.

It is unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to have in his or its possession, or to keep, store, use, shoot, discharge, set off ignite, manufacture, sell, give, or transport, any fireworks, pursuant to a permit obtained under the provisions of Sections 12509, 12511, 12413, 12600 et seq. and 12650 et seq. of the Health and Safety Code of the State of California.

Explanation: Norco residents are known to own many bizarre animals. These animals will many times escape captivity and run through town. To put a curb to this activity, some measure has been taken to prevent it.

Citation: Section 8.05.020 Permit--Definition.

Except as provided in this chapter, no person shall possess, keep, maintain or have in his possession or under his control, within the city, any elephant, bear, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, lion, tiger, leopard, panther, ocelot, lynx, cougar, wolf, alligator, fox, raccoon, coyote, monkey, ape, chimpanzee, birds of prey, poisonous reptile, other dangerous or carnivorous wild animal, other vicious or dangerous domesticated animal or any other animal of wild or vicious propensities, without first applying to and receiving a permit from the city of Norco to do so.

Section 8.05.050

Permit--Application fee. No permit shall be granted under this chapter unless there is paid to the city at the time of filing of the application therefor, an application fee in the amount of one hundred dollars for the first animal, and thirty dollars for every animal of the same species thereafter for which a permit is sought. The immature offspring of such animals shall not require additional permits during the period of the permit. An application for a second animal of a different species shall be one hundred dollars. These fees are non-refundable.

Growing oleander flowers is illegal.

No person, corporation or public agency shall plant or cultivate the oleander plant at any place in the city for any purpose whatsoever.

It is illegal to fish from an overpass in the city.

It shall be unlawful for any person to jump or fish from any bridge or overpass located within the city limits.

No person may carry a fish into a bar.

It is unlawful for any person to allow or permit any animal in, or take any animal, whether loose, on a leash, or in arms, into any food establishment, such as a restaurant, grocery store, meat market or into any place where alcoholic beverages are sold, except guide dogs or dogs being trained as guide dogs.

Prunedale Laws

Two bathtubs may not be installed in the same house.

Redlands Laws

Motor vehicles may not drive on city streets unless a man with a lantern is wallking ahead of it.

Riverside Laws

One may not carry a lunch down the street between 11 and 1 o'clock.

San Diego Laws

It is illegal to shoot jackrabbits from the back of a streetcar.

The owners of houses with Christmas lights on them past February second may be fined up to $250.

San Francisco Laws

Prohibits elephants from strolling down Market Street unless they are on a leash.

It is illegal to wipe one's car with used underwear.

Persons classified as "ugly" may not walk down any street

It is illegal to pile horse manure more than six feet high on a street corner.

Giving or receiving oral sex is prohibited.

San Jose Laws

It is illegal to have more than two cats or dogs.

San Luis Obispo Laws

Using a gas-powered blower at a business on Sunday is prohibited.

Citation: 9.12.050 Prohibited acts.

A. Noise Disturbances Prohibited. No person shall make, continue or cause to be made or continued, or permit or allow to be made or continued, any noise disturbance in such a manner as to be plainly audible at a distance of fifty feet from the noisemaker; provided, nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any noise which does not penetrate beyond the boundaries of the noisemaker's own premises or does not constitute an unreasonable disturbance to people lawfully on said premises.

B. Specific Prohibitions. The acts, as set forth in this section, arid the causing or permitting thereof, are declared to be in violation of this chapter.

1. Radios, Television Sets, Musical Instruments and Similar Devices. Operating, playing or permitting the operation or playing of any radio, television set, phonograph, drum, musical instrument, or similar device which produces or reproduces sound:

a. Between the hours of ten p.m. and seven a.m. in such a manner as to create a noise disturbance across a residential or commercial real property line or at any time to violate the provisions of Section 9.12.060 of this chapter, except for activities for which a exception has been issued by the noise control office.

b. In such a manner as to exceed the levels set forth for public space in Table 1 of Section 9.12.060 of this chapter, measured at a distance of at least fifty feet (fifteen meters) from such device operating on a public right-of-way or public space.

2. Loudspeakers (Amplified Sound). Using or operating for any purpose any loudspeaker, loudspeaker system or similar device between the hours of ten p.m. and seven a.m., such that the sound therefrom creates a noise disturbance across a residential real property line, or at any time violates the provisions of Section 9.12.060 of this chapter, except for any noncommercial public speaking, public assembly or other activity for which an exception has been issued by the noise control office.

3. Street Sales. Offering for sale, selling anything or advertising by shouting or outcry within any residential or commercial area of the city except by exception issued by the noise control office. The provisions of this section shall not be construed to prohibit the selling by outcry of merchandise, food and beverages at licensed sporting events, parades, fairs, circuses or other similar licensed or permitted public entertainment events.

4. Animals and Birds. Owning, possessing or harboring any animal or bird which frequently or for long duration, howls, barks' meows, squawks or makes other sounds which create a noise disturbance across a residential or commercial real property line or within a noise sensitive zone.

5. Loading and Unloading. Loading, unloading, opening, closing or other handling of boxes, crates, containers, building materials or similar objects between the hours of ten p.m. and seven a.m. in such a manner as to cause a noise disturbance across a residential real property line or at any time to violate the provisions of Section 9.12.060 of this chapter.

6. Construction/Demolition.

a. Operating or causing the operation of any tools or equipment used in construction, drilling, repair, alteration or demolition work between weekday hours of seven p.m. and seven a.m., or any time on Sundays or holidays, such that the sound therefrom creates a noise disturbance across a residential or commercial real property line, except for emergency work of public service utilities or by exception issued by the community development department. (This section shall not apply to the use of domestic power tools as specified in subsection B 10 of this section.

b. Noise Restrictions at Affected Properties. Where technically and economically feasible, construction activities shall be conducted in such a manner that the maximum noise levels at affected properties will not exceed those listed in the following schedule:

i. At Residential Properties. ii. At Business Properties. Mobile Equipment Maximum noise levels for nonscheduled, intermittent, short-term operation of mobile equipment: Daily, including Sunday and legal holidays, all hours; maximum of 85 dBA. Stationary Equipment Maximum noise levels for repetitively scheduled and relatively long-term operations of stationary equipment: Daily, including Sundays and legal holidays, all hours; maximum of 75 dBA. All mobile or stationary internal combustion engine powered equipment or machinery shall be equipped with suitable exhaust and air intake silencers in proper working order.

7. Vibration. Operating or permitting the operation of any device that creates a vibration which is above the vibration perception threshold of an individual at or beyond the property boundary of the source if on private property or at one hundred fifty feet (forty-six meters) from the source if on a public space or public right-of-way.

8. Powered Model Vehicles. Operating or permitting the operation of powered model vehicles:

a. Between the hours of seven p.m. and seven a.m. so as to create a noise disturbance across a residential or commercial real property line or at any time to violate the provisions of Section 9.12.070 of this chapter.

b. In such a manner as to exceed the levels set forth for public space land use in Table 1 of Section 9.12.060 measured at a distance not less than one hundred feet (thirty meters) from any point on the path of a vehicle operating on public space or public right-of-way.

9. Emergency Signaling Devices.

a. The intentional sounding or permitting the sounding outdoors of any fire, burglar or civil defense alarm, siren, whistle or similar stationary emergency signaling device, except for emergency purposes or for testing, as provided in subsection B 9 b of this section.

b. i. Testing of a stationary emergency signaling device shall not occur before seven a.m. or after seven p.m. Any such testing shall use only the minimum cycle test time. In no case shall such test time exceed sixty seconds.

ii. Testing of the complete emergency signaling system, including the functioning of the signaling device, and the personnel response to the signaling device, shall not occur more than once in each calendar month. Such testing shall not occur before seven a.m. or after ten p.m. The time limit specified in subsection B 9 b i of this section shall not apply to such complete system testing. c. Sounding or permitting the sounding of any exterior burglar or fire alarm or any motor vehicle burglar alarm unless such alarm is terminated within thirty minutes of activation.

10. Domestic Power Tools, Machinery.

a. Operating or permitting the operation of any mechanically powered saw, sander, drill, grinder, lawn or garden tool or similar tool between ten p.m. and seven a.m., so as to create a noise disturbance across a residential or commercial real property line.

b. Operating a power blower in a residential zone or within two hundred feet of a residential zone between six p.m. and eight a.m., seven days a week.

c. Operating a power blower in any nonresidential zone between six p.m. and seven a.m., Monday through Saturday, or between six p.m. and eight a.m. Sunday.

d. Operating a power blower in such a manner as to exceed the following standard: MeasurementMaximum Noise Location Level, dBA 50 feet from the blower70dB

e. Operating a gasoline-fueled blower any time on a Sunday.

f. Any motor, machinery, or pump, such as swimming pool equipment, etc., shall be sufficiently enclosed or muffled and maintained so as not to create a noise disturbance in accordance with Section 9.12.060 of this chapter.

11. Residential Air-Conditioning or Air-Handling Equipment. Operating or permitting the operation of any air-conditioning or air-handling equipment in such a manner as to exceed any of the following sound levels: Units Installed Before on or After 1-1-01 Measurement LocationdB(A)dB(A) Any point on neighboring property line, five feet above grade level, no closer than three feet from any wall. Outside the neighboring living area window nearest theequipment location, not more than three feet from the window opening, but at least three feet from any other surface.

Santa Monica Laws

You may not play percussion instruments on the beach.

Shasta Lake Laws

One may not raffle off a dog as a gift in any public place

Citation: 6.12.020 Selling, giving away or auctioning animals.

It is a violation of this title to sell or give away unaltered dogs and cats in any public places or to auction off or raffle unaltered dogs and cats as prizes or gifts. No person in the city shall publish or advertise to city residents the availability of any unaltered cat or dog unless the publication or advertisement includes: the unaltered animal's license number, provided, however that nothing in this ordinance shall prohibit licensed breeders from advertising in national publications for sale of a planned litter or litter(s).

Simi Valley Laws

Remote control cars can only be driven in designated areas of city parks.

Citation: 10-1.03 Restricted acts.

It shall be unlawful for any person within the limits of public schools, parks, recreation areas, and open spaces which are now or which may hereafter be within the City, including all grounds, roadways, avenues, parks, buildings, campgrounds, swimming pools, equestrian trails, bicycle trails, hiking trails, and school facilities under the control, management, or direction of either the Simi Valley Unified School District and the Simi Valley Recreation and Park District:

(d) To play or engage in the flying of motorized or self-propelled model airplanes or rockets or motorized self-propelled model cars and boats, the driving of golf balls, archery, baseball, softball, football, soccer, volleyball, or any similar game of a hazardous nature, except at such places and times as shall be especially set apart for such purposes;

Temecula Laws

Ducks have the right of way to cross Rancho California St. at all times.

Thousand Oaks Laws

Before a business may have a "going out of business sale", they must obtain a special permit from the city manager

Citation: Sec. 5-4.01. Permits: Required.

It shall be unlawful for any person to advertise, represent, or hold out that any sale of goods, wares, or merchandise is an insurance, bankruptcy, liquidation, mortgage, insolvent's, assignee's, executor's, administrator's, receiver's, removal, or closing-out sale, or any particular department of such stock of goods, wares, or merchandise, under the guise of discontinuing business or discontinuing that particular department, or a sale of goods, wares, or merchandise damaged by fire, smoke, water, or otherwise, or a sale of goods from the stock of a bankrupt, receiver, trustee, insurance company, receivership, or trusteeship, or to conduct such sale unless he shall have first obtained a permit to conduct such sale from the City Manager.

Walnut Laws

Ice cream men must obtain a license before selling any ice cream from their car.

Citation: 10-1 Use of vehicles for commercial advertising.

No person at any time shall operate, drive or park or cause to be operated, driven or parked upon any street alley parkway, sidewalk or public property within the city, without first obtaining written permission therefor from the city clerk, any advertising vehicle, sound truck or commercial vehicle with its sound amplifying equipment in operation or with any sound or signaling device in operation for the purpose of advertising goods, wares or merchandise sold at or from such vehicle or for the purpose of attracting or calling attention to such vehicle. Application for the permission required hereunder shall be made to the city clerk in accordance with such rules and regulations as he may prescribe thereto and such permission shall be given only if the operation of any such advertising vehicle, sound truck or commercial vehicle will not be inimical to the public welfare, health or safety or cause such sounds or noises to be emitted or created as will disturb the peace of the citizens of the city. The city clerk shall refer the application to the county sheriff and may in his discretion rely on the decision of the county sheriff whether the same will be inimical to public welfare, health or safety, or will disturb the peace.

Kites may not be flown above 10 feet over the ground.

Citation: 17-1 Kite flying restricted.

It shall be unlawful for any person to fly, above an altitude of ten feet above the ground, or near any electrical conductive public utility wires or facilities, any kite or balloon which has a body or any parts, tail, string or ribbon made of any metallic or electrical conductive material.

Children may not wear a halloween mask unless they get a special permit from the sheriff.

Citation: 17-32 Mask or disguise--Wearing.

No person shall wear a mask or disguise on a public street without a permit from the sheriff.

Persons may not pick flowers from the city parks.

Citation: 17-25 Flowers--Picking in parks, etc.

No person shall pick any flower or flowers growing in any public park or place in the city, except by the express authorization of the superintendent thereof.

Males may not dress as a female unless a special permit is obtained from the sheriff.

Citation: 17-31 Male dressing as female.

No man or boy shall dress as a girl or woman without a permit from the sheriff, except for the purpose of amusement, show or drama.

One may not leave sand in their own driveway.

Citation: 15-3 Depositing certain items on public or private property prohibited.

No person shall place, deposit, throw or dump, or cause to be placed, deposited, thrown or dumped, any garbage, swill, cans, bottles, papers, ashes, dirt, sand, rock, cement, glass, metal, carcass of any dead animal, offal, refuse, plants, cuttings or trash or rubbish of any nature whatsoever, or any nauseous, offensive matter or in or upon any public or private road, highway, street, alley, public way or any public or private property of any kind whatsoever.
